Q. Are you Medicare and Medicaid certified?
A. Yes.

Q. Are your charges inclusive or a la carte?
A. In health care, items that cost extra include but are not limited to telephone, cable television, nursing supplies, and medications.

Q. What is your staff to resident ratio?
A. Staffing in long-term care facilities is based on the number of hours of staffing for each resident per day. The state minimum requirement is 2.00 hours per resident per day. We staff Wesley Towers at 3.00 hours or above, depending on the nursing requirements of residents at a given time.

Q. Does the facility provide a wheelchair, walker, or commode? If so, how much does it cost?
A. The cost for these items depends on the payment source. Private pay residents will pay for a wheelchair or walker, if needed. Residents on Medicare and Medicaid will have these items furnished. If a resident is going off Medicare, the resident will need to furnish his or her own. We do not charge for the use of commodes.

Q. What medications and supplies can residents have in their room?
A. Any items with a hazard warning label on them must be kept under lock. The only exception is when there is a physician order for the resident to keep items in their room; however, they must still be under lock if they are a hazard.

Q. Should a resident bring any valuables?
A. We request that you consider whether the resident brings valuables into the facility. We do not normally have a theft problem, but we also like to reduce the temptation. We do have safety deposit boxes available right here in the facility for small items.

Q. Please explain care plans.
A. A care plan is really a map for how we plan the care that is to be provided to residents. Each department develops a plan of care for the resident from their departmental perspective. Then the departments all get together to discuss the plan to assure that what they are doing will compliment what the other departments are doing in order to have the resident attain or maintain the highest level of functioning possible. These are completed upon admission, quarterly, and when a significant change occurs.

Q. Does your special care center staff have any special training in dealing with residents with dementia?
A. Yes. Our special care center coordinator is a Licensed Practical Nurse and receives ongoing training and education in working with dementia residents. All staff working in the special care center must watch a series of videos relating to dementia and Alzheimer's prior to employment. ALL Wesley Towers employees are required to attend a yearly in-service relating to dementia. We also offer ongoing training for new knowledge and to refresh our employees regarding appropriate care practices.

Q. We have insurance that pays for medications. If they do not package them in a bubble pack, what is to be done?
A. At this time, we request that medications be delivered to us in a bubble pack system. This allows for greater control and monitoring. Therefore, you would need to find a pharmacy to provide the medications in the bubble packs.

Q. Once my loved one is finished with the physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy, how will their therapy be continued?
A. Through Wesley Towers restorative staff who will implement plans established by the therapists.

Q. Who reorders the medications?
A. These are reordered by a nurse from the care center.

Q. How will my loved one get to their meals or activities?
A. If a resident can ambulate to the meal or activity by themself, they will do so. Otherwise, staff will assist them in walking or with their wheelchair. This is established by the therapy department.
